June 5, 2024 (Raleigh, NC): The Green Chair Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing furnishings and household essentials to those facing the challenges of homelessness, crisis, or financial hardship, today announced the achievement of three major milestone in the organization’s history.

This month, The Green Chair Project is proud to share three significant milestones, made possible by the unwavering support of their partners, donors, sponsors, volunteers, and dedicated staff:

  • Providing 10,000 children with a bed/crib who previously lacked a bed of their own.
  • Serving 10,000 households with essential items needed to make a house a home.
  • Diverted 10,000 tons of furniture and household items from landfills.

“Since 2010 we have collaborated with Wake County nonprofits and agency partners to provide essential home furnishings for their clients,” said Rae Marie Czuhai, CEO of The Green Chair Project. “We believe lives can be changed when families and individuals are nurtured and sustained in well-equipped homes. By working together, we have been able to enhance lives, improve health outcomes, and help reduce homelessness throughout the community.”

The Green Chairs Project’s mission is made possible through partnerships with more than 100 accredited social service and government agencies. These professionals are instrumental in providing experience and expertise that enhances the organization’s outreach.

“As one of the only organizations in our area that helps us provide comfortable, fully furnished homes for our transitional housing families, The Green Chair Project is one of the biggest partnership blessings for The Carying Place.” said Leslie Covington, Executive Director of The Carying Place. “In addition, they support our program graduate families with all the furnishings and housewares needed when they move into their self-sustained homes. The value and dignity that this partnership brings to those we serve is irreplaceable. We’d like to thank The Green Chair Project for making our mission to empower working families experiencing homelessness more impactful. They are helping us make self-sustained housing dreams come true!”

Wake County continues to experience significant population growth. Simultaneously, almost 90,000 residents currently live below the federal poverty line and cannot afford basic household furnishings. The Green Chair Project helps provide individuals and families with the furnishings and essential home items they need to make a house a home.

Recipients who receive support from The Green Chair Project share how the furnishings and essential home items help make their house a home:

“The Green Chair was amazing! They were very vital to my success with rehousing! Green Chair made it possible for me to have a bed to sleep in, dishes to cook with, as well as a table to even set my plates on for my family and me.  And for that, from my family to your Green Chair family, thank you for helping me in my time of need! You guys are Amazing and a God Send!” Client, The Green Chair Project.

“When we first moved into an empty apartment with absolutely nothing left to spend on furnishing, The Green Chair came to our rescue. They helped us furnish our whole apartment. My kids received a new twin size mattress and frame as well as bedding and a pillow. I was never aware that a place like this even existed. I’ll never forget what you all did for me and the family when we needed it the most. Thank you, Green Chair!!” Client, The Green Chair Project.

In honor of the families served, and the community that helped make it happen, The Green Chair Project invites the community to join them in celebration at their 10,000 Milestone Celebration Open House:

  • Friday, June 21st, 10am to 3pm
  • Short program at 11am and 2pm
  • Behind-the-scenes tours throughout the day
